Participating in the PL Immigration GIC Program for International Students: A Four-Step GuideEmbark on your Canadian academic journey with ease by enrolling in the PL Immigration GIC Program designed for international scholars. Follow this four-phase process to establish your financial foundation in Canada:
Initiate your financial journey by applying online for the PL Immigration Student Savings Account along with the International Student GIC. Complete the digital application and verify your identity to gain access to your new savings account details and receive the appropriate instructions for international wiring.
Kickstart your savings by wiring a preliminary payment—a minimum of CAD $20,635, incorporating the wire transfer fee—to your PL Immigration Student Savings Account within 90 days post-account creation. Further contributions to your savings can be made in any amount via wire transfer and will conveniently accessible upon your Canadian arrival.
Upon receipt of your wire, PL Immigration will allocate CAD $20,635 of your funds into your designated International Student GIC. An email confirmation will follow, detailing your investment, with the residual amount settling in your savings account.
Upon landing in Canada, arrange a visitation at one of the numerous PL Immigration branches countrywide. This face-to-face appointment will facilitate the verification of your identity, completion of necessary paperwork, and activation of your bank accounts.
Thereafter, PL Immigration will liquidate CAD $4,635 plus accrued interest from your GIC, crediting it directly to your Student Savings Account. Over the next ten months, the rest of your GIC will be released in equal portions of $1,600 monthly, along with the accumulated interest, in line with the preset GIC Payment Schedule.

PL Immigration shares the latest update from the IRCC regarding adjustments to Canada’s study permit allocations. Starting in 2024, the IRCC has capped the number of study permits at 360,000 for the year, with specific allocations determined by each province and territory’s student population. Notably, this cap does not apply to master’s or doctoral students, nor those attending primary or secondary schools. Additionally, individuals renewing their study permits will not be subject to these changes.
By 2025, the cap will increase to 437,000 study permits, extending to include master’s and PhD students as well. These changes are part of an initiative aimed at maintaining sustainable international student numbers, protecting the integrity of the program, and ensuring there’s enough housing for incoming students across Canada.
Under these new regulations, the IRCC will distribute study permit quotas to provincial and territorial authorities, who will then allocate them among Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) in their regions.
To comply with this policy, all study permit applications submitted after January 22nd, 2024, must include a provincial attestation letter from the respective province or territory, endorsing the applicant’s authorization to study in Canada.
